Cellular debris and large, very atypical (anaplastic) cells (MGG). Poorly preserved inflammatory cells (macrophages, lymphocytes) admixed with large atypical cells with very high N/C ratio. This is cytologically easy to report as a malignancy as long as the sampling does not hit a necrotic area or the surrounding benign thyroid.
Bizarre, multinucleated atypical cells (MGG). Very large, irregular nuclei with prominent nucleoli and coarse chromatin in a necrotic background.
A crowded cluster of aytpical spindle cells from an anaplastic carcinoma (MGG). A crowded group of atypical spindle cells resembling a sarcoma, surrounded by necrotic debris (MGG).
